Rockshield
Thick polyethylene mesh for pipeline impact protection
SFL Rockshield is manufactured from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), this mesh features a diamond structure that offers robust cushioning and impact resistance. It provides pipeline impact protection against rocks or hard backfill which can cause damage to installed coating systems and offers protection from abrasive objects prohibiting geologic movements from damaging pipelines.
The SFL Rockshield is chemically inert, meaning it will not rot or degrade, and is resistant to extreme weather conditions. Its flexibility makes it easy to handle and apply, even in challenging environments. Available in rolls or pads, the open mesh structure also allows for water flow, ensuring that cathodic protection is not compromised.
In terms of its properties, the 11 mm thickness mesh, has a weight of 1700 g per square meter, and can withstand temperatures ranging from -30°C to +100°C (-22°F to +212°F). It has high impact resistance (17 Joules) and strong compressive strength (over 600 Kpa at 50% deformation). The tensile strength exceeds 14.9 KN/m, with elongation at break values over 70%.
Onshore Rockshield
SFL Onshore Rockshield is a protective mesh specifically designed to shield pipeline coatings from damage caused by rocks, hard backfill, and geological shifts during onshore applications, ensuring that buried pipelines remain protected. The product is particularly valuable for protecting coatings on pipelines against the impact of rocks or hard soil that can occur during backfilling.
Installation of the Onshore Rockshield requires wrapping it around the pipeline and securing it with strappingband, ensuring complete protection against onshore hazards.
Offshore Rockshield
SFL Offshore Rockshield is a protective mesh designed to safeguard pipeline coatings during offshore applications. It is ideal for protecting pipelines from impact damage caused by lay barge rollers, anchors, rock placement, infill, and fishing (trawl) activities.
The product is chemically inert, meaning it will not degrade or rot, even in harsh marine conditions. It is engineered to withstand extreme weather, and its flexibility at low temperatures allows for easy handling and installation, even in challenging offshore environments. The open mesh structure ensures that water can flow through, which prevents any negative impact on cathodic protection systems that are crucial for preventing corrosion.
For installation, the Offshore Rockshield is wrapped around the pipeline and secured using strappingband, ensuring the pipeline is fully protected against offshore hazards.
