Powercrete Epoxy Coating for Pipeline Protection: Coosa River

22nd November 2024

Tackling Diverse Terrains with Epoxy Coating

Powercrete DD epoxy coating providing vital protection to the challenges horizontal directional drilling brings.

Liquid epoxy coatings offering the best stress, abrasion, impact and gouge properties

Seal For Life Powercrete DD Epoxy Coating was used to provide pipeline protection for the horizontal directional drill on one of the nation’s largest interstate natural gas systems, delivering gas from South Texas to New York City.

Pipeline crossings can be challenging at the best of times, river crossings even more so – consider the subsurface geology, topography of the region and depth of dig. There are various options to approaching this such as horizontal directional drilling, micro tunneling and open trench construction.

When considering the best approach, in depth surveys must be conducted and in the case of crossing the Coosa River, part of the Transco Pipeline System, HDD was seen to be the best option.

A project such as this one had multiple complexities in terms of both access and operation. The Williams team, with assistance of the engineering consultants, decided to enhance the mechanical protection of the 42” OD pipe with POWERCRETE DD410 Epoxy Coating.

POWERCRETE is the leader and most reliable Mechanical Protection ARO Epoxy Coating, with more than 30 years of history and thousands of successful projects. POWERCRETE DD is a Liquid Epoxy Polymer Concrete with the best stress, abrasion, impact and gouge properties.

After the geological analysis the mechanical properties of POWERCRETE match perfectly the requirements of the project. Ultimately through collaboration the Coosa River horizontal directional drilling installation was a success.
